Are REU programs prestigious?
NSF-REUs are extremely competitive and ‘prestigious’. They are normally research positions that are fully-funded, more on the money later, which last 6-10 weeks during the summer. During my undergraduate, I was able to attend 3 different REU programs all over the country.

Note that REUs are competitive, just like jobs (some have as low as ~10% acceptance, others have much higher rates). Be realistic with your choices, and consider applying to multiple programs if you’re intent on doing research this summer.

Do REUs look good on resumes?
This means that you can work with a professor while you are working on your undergraduate degree. You can also get funding from said professor, and as always… it looks good on your resume. the areas of knot theory, tiling theory, and graph theory.
