TheaterWorks Hartford has announced May 5th-10th as “Next to Normal” week! The Pulitzer Prize winning Broadway musical by Brian Yorkey and Tom Kitt was presented in 2017 and will be streaming on three occusions – from May 8th to 10th at 8PM EST.

Is Next to Normal problematic?
The show is unusual for being centred on mental illness, firstly. The main character, Diana, has bipolar disorder and this is what drives the central conflicts of the show (I’d love to see a musical where a character being mentally ill was just part of their character, but that’s another issue entirely…).
