Ninth grade students in a traditional 9-12 high school are not eligible for NJHS membership. Per national guidelines, at a minimum, students must have a cumulative GPA of 85, B, 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, or equivalent standard of excellence. (Each school chapter is allowed to require a higher cumulative GPA.)
How do you get invited to NJHS?
To become a member of NJHS, you must be selected as a candidate by your chapter’s faculty council. Students who meet their chapter’s cumulative GPA requirement are then considered for membership on the basis of service, leadership, citizenship and character.

What grades do you have to have to be in NJHS?
Selected students will be notified and inducted during the fourth quarter of 7th grade year, when they will begin to work with the 8th grade members. As 8th graders, the inducted members must maintain their good citizenship and GPA of 3.75 or higher, or NJHS active membership will be terminated.
