What material is AISI 1020?
What material is AISI 1020?
AISI 1020 carbon steel is a low carbon steel which has at least 0.17%C and 0.3%Mn. It has a good combination of strength and ductility and can be carburized, but due to its low carbon content, it is difficult to induction hardening or flame hardening. Due to lack of alloying elements, it is not suitable for nitriding.
What is 1020 Cold Rolled Steel?
1020 Cold Rolled Steel is a plain carbon steel and has a nominal carbon content of 0.20% with approximately 0.50% manganese. Because of its chemical makeup 1020 Cold Rolled Steel has a good mixture of ductility and strength. It may be carburized or hardened.

CAN 1020 steel be hardened?
AISI 1020 carbon steel can be hardened by heating between 815- 871°C (1500 – 1600°F), which should be followed by water quenching. Then it should be tempered.
What is yield strength of 1020 steel?
350 MPa
1020 steel has a tensile strength of 420 MPa and a yield strength of 350 MPa. 1020’s modulus of elasticity is 205 GPa and the shear modulus is 80GPa. It has high machinability, good weldability and high ductility. 1020’s Poison’s ratio is 0.29 and the elongation at break (in 50mm) is 15%.
How do you case Harden 1020 steel?
Heat Treatment AISI 1020 carbon steel can be hardened by heating between 815- 871°C (1500 – 1600°F), which should be followed by water quenching. Then it should be tempered.
