Is asthma an occupational hazard?

Occupational asthma is a type of asthma caused by exposure to inhaled irritants in the workplace. Occupational asthma is often a reversible condition, which means the symptoms may disappear when the irritants that caused the asthma are avoided.

Are allergies OSHA recordable?

Yes. An allergic reaction to an exposure in the work environment is recordable once they used their prescription medication (epinephrine / inhaler).

Is a breathing treatment OSHA recordable?

Response: The administration of oxygen is considered medical treatment for OSHA injury and illness recordkeeping purposes. If an employee is symptomatic of a work-related injury or illness (e.g., respiratory distress from smoke inhalation) and is administered oxygen, the case is recordable.

What is considered an OSHA recordable illness?

How does OSHA define a recordable injury or illness? Any work-related fatality. Any work-related injury or illness that results in loss of consciousness, days away from work, restricted work, or transfer to another job. Any work-related injury or illness requiring medical treatment beyond first aid.

Is using an EpiPen a recordable?

Answer: Yes. Even though an Epipen is self-administered, it’s still considered “medical treatment” for recordkeeping purposes. It’s both a prescription medication, and not included on OSHA’s list of first aid treatments.

Is Benadryl OSHA recordable?

Answer: The injury would not be an OSHA recordable if the only treatment was ice and/or some other form of first aid. However, if the employee goes to the doctor, and the doctor gives the employee a Benadryl shot, then the injury becomes recordable because the employee received medical treatment.

Is oxygen considered first aid?

According to the FDA, to be classified as emergency oxygen, it must be delivered at a dose of at least 6 liters per minute or run for a duration of more than 15 minutes. In this case it is considered first aid use and does not require a prescription.

Is pre existing condition OSHA recordable?

If an employee has a preexisting condition the employer needs to make a determination on whether the event or exposure in the work environment aggravated this pre-existing condition to the point where it needed medical treatment that otherwise would not have been needed. If so, the case is work related and recordable.

What is not an OSHA recordable injury?

Injuries that do not require medical treatment beyond first aid are generally not recordable. The OSH Act defines first aid to include the following: Using a nonprescription medication at nonprescription strength.

Is 600 mg ibuprofen OSHA recordable?
