Does TRIM work in RAID?
Does TRIM work in RAID?
Is there TRIM support for RAID configurations? IntelĀ® Rapid Storage Technology 9.6 supports TRIM in AHCI mode and in RAID mode for drives that are not part of a RAID volume.
Should I enable TRIM on SSD?
Trim is beneficial, but not mandatory. Because some operating systems do not support Trim, SSD manufacturers design, create, and test their drives assuming that Trim will not be used.
What is TRIM in RAID?
What is TRIM? TRIM is an attribute of the ATA Data Set Management Command. The TRIM function improves compatibility, endurance, and performance by allowing the drive to do garbage collection in the background. This collection eliminates blocks of data, such as deleted files.
Can I use trim with RAID 0?
I am not aware of ANY hardware raid controllers that will pass TRIM using anything but RAID 0 because of PHY lockups. TRIM is an OS level command, but the OS does not have direct control over the drive if it is on a RAID controller.
What is trim on an SSD?
TRIM is an OS level command, but the OS does not have direct control over the drive if it is on a RAID controller. Some SSD manufacturers (Micron/Crucial) are starting to remove TRIM because of how inconsistent and unreliable it is with newer chipsets. Was this post helpful? Thanks for your feedback! What happens if you put SSDs behind a RAID controller?
There’s one catch, though… If your SSDs are behind a RAID volume attached to a RAID controller (HPE’s SmartArray, Dell’s PERC, or anything based on LSI/Avago’s MegaRAID), here’s what happens: Just nothing.
Does Intel RST for enterprise support trim (striped array)?
NOTE: TRIM is supported in IRST for RAID 0 (Striped Array), and also in RAID 1 in IRST for Enterprise on Dell Precision Workstations which support this IRST for Enterprise version. So, if I could use Intel RST for Enterprise, it would work.
