What is an FY2 doctor?

Doctors in the first year of the programme as known as Foundation Year 1 (FY1) doctors, and those in the second year are known as Foundation Year 2 (FY2) doctors.

What is FY2 level?

If a job is advertised as FY2 but it is not actually part of the official Foundation Programme, then it is simply a “non-training” job at the level of FY2 ie. someone who is quite junior. If you’re still new to how postgraduate medical training in the UK works, you can read more about it here.

Is it easy to get FY2 in UK?

However, getting a training FY2 post is very difficult, since most people who enter FY1, complete their FY2 training in the UK; there are almost no vacancies for FY2 training for IMGs. So the best option would be to apply for different non-training posts at FY2/CT1 (SHO) level, which can be found very easily.

Can FY2 doctors prescribe?

Yes. An FY2 doctor is post registration and is therefore able to sign a prescription.
