It only takes about an hour and a half to get to China Peak from Fresno. The roads are well maintained so you don’t necessarily need 4-wheel-drive to get up there. Be sure to keep chains in your car at all times just in case.

China Peak, A Sierra Mountain Named in Honor of A Chinese Cowboy. Arriving in central California from Alabama around 1859, J. A. Blasingame quickly became one of the area’s largest landowners by purchasing land in Fresno County.

It was named in honor of Charley Blasingame by the U.S. Forest Service. The name was Chinese Mountain, and it has since been changed to China Peak. The ski resort’s first chairlift is anchored to the stone of this volcano.
